The Rock in Mississippi
Author: srman

Yeah I know it's the Mississippi Delta RR however in Sumner Ms. you wouldn't know it by what's sitting around. On January 5th I passed thru the area of northwestern Mississippi to discover a railroad that I never actually saw in real life. Beautifully restored to Rock Island colors a GE in the red and yellow and EMD's in the blue and white were looking good.

The -9 has been used very little since it’s acquisition. Rock island cannot use it north of Sumner until the tracks and bridge approaches are resurfaced and physical plant reconditioned on their “main” line.

Robert has a nice railroad. It’s turned out good for him.

2127 looks like an ex-FNM Super-7 from Mexico, it is not a Dash-9.

Looks like the caboose in photo 1 background may also be RI inspired.

It is just a regular old C40-8 of CN, UP, and CNW heritage

This guy has also purchased a few passenger cars in the last year - an Amtrak Certified sleeper lounge obs car, and an ex-Santa Fe former-bar lounge dorm car from the Iowa Pacific sale.

Robert does charters in his private car that’s currently Amtrak certified. He runs it from New Orleans to Memphis and Chicago, regularly.

Rock Island did some upgrades and classifies it as a C42-9.
