Lake Erie Land - Almost Spring ?
Author: train1275

Wednesday February 16, 2022
Vermilion, OH

Last Saturday was a cold rain, Sunday was like blizzard conditions, Monday and Tuesday was cold like in single digits and here we are on Wednesday with temps in the 50's.
With the sun getting higher and the temperature warming up it just has the feel of Spring today. I'm sure there will be a rude awakening to this illusion, but for today it was nice.

1 & 2.  Hanging out at Risden Road west of town waiting for the 24M and a horn sounds on the NKP across the way. It is the 32N coming up from Bellevue and heading for the connector to the Chicago Line for the run east. So we are on the Chicago Line (ex NYC RR) looking across at the semi-parallel Nickel Plate line, with a glimpse of the Chicago Line to NKP connector that Trains 22K and 206 sometimes take. The 32N is about to take the other connector to get NKP east to Chicago Line east. Power on 32N was 9566, 4069, 3646 and 7263. Photo 2 shows some of the interlocking of the connector off the Chicago Line as the "cargo" rolls by.

3. Finally the 24M comes with a single unit (NS 1110) and a short train.

4. Following the 24M was the 20E coming through downtown Vermilion in a scene that makes one think of the change to a warmer season. Power on 20E was NS 4409, 4448, and 4405. I just missed the 26E, otherwise I would have gotten all three of the Three Horseman (26E, 24M, 20E).

Good pix. Nice to see that melt out is happening somewhere. On Feb 2, all the woodchucks around here were frozen into their burrows, couldn't get out to confirm their shadows.

The little buggers are still down there, I'm sure.
