Action at KM and Amherst Today - Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Wednesday May 4, 2022
Ohio National Guard opened fire on protesters at Kent State killing 4 and wounding nine on this date in 1970.

Had some action at "KM" east of Vermilion, OH on the NKP this morning. Train 315 met the 206 and 22K and then the 205 followed out the 315. Late to the party and left early, so only got the 22K / 315.

1 & 2. -  22K with NS 4162 and CSX 4814 (SD70Mac) approaches "KM" (Kishmans) along Berkely Road at Overlook Crossing. The 315 is up the track to the east at Helen Drive waiting. 315 has already seen the passing of the 206. It is unusual to see CSX power here, and more rare to catch a CSX SD70Mac.

3. After 22K passed the 315 came to life and entered the interlocking seen here with Berkley Road in the foreground. Power on the 315 was NS 9619 and 7712.

4 - 6. -  We follow the 315 as it passes by Guilford Road and heads through the interlocker to Overlook crossing and enters the single track, beating feet for Bellevue.

7. I've wanted to scope this area of Amherst out more, but today was kind of yucky and this was purely a grab shot. We are looking south  on South Main Street as the 21Z with NS 4146 leading comes over the top on the "Chinese Wall". Time and lighting permitting, I'll probably be back here again.

8 - 9. Crosse Road on the west side of Amherst is where the Chicago Line ducks under the four lane Route 2. Here we have Train 35N making speed scorching ballast as they blast under Route 2 and head for the crossing. Power is NS 7538 and BNSF 6588 with mid-train DPU BNSF 7807. Train 35N is a Conway (Pittsburgh) to Gateway Yard (East St. Louis) train.

Looks like you'll need good pole and line filters for that Amherst shot! That bridge is sure an, uh, really ugly color! I think you may need to invest in Photoshop at some point!
Great posts as usual.
Thanks,
Go

Glad you finally made it to Amherst! Not bad for a grab shot, the flags worked out well.

Yeah, it has been on the radar for a while since you pointed it out.
It is challenging, but I think I'll experiment with it. The facing south perspective is tough with the sun and power lines and poles are also challenging.
Facing north might work better, lighting and wire issues and also looking at Church Street.

Early in the Penn Central days; several bridges in Northern Ohio were painted in its green color.  This must have been one of them.  That went by the wayside before long, given PC's financial issues; as has most railroads regularly painting bridges.
