Chasing Train 315 in NKP Land today

On this date in 1804 Lewis & Clark started their epic journey to the west coast from St. Louis.

Rainy morning, some thunder and then a hot clear afternoon. Took some shots this morning but they were muddy and dark, then heard the 315 was westbound out of Lakewood.

He had work at Sheffield, but then had a problem with a handbrake that stopped him in Lorain. That meant we had time to go home and have a quick lunch and debate anew how and where to catch him. Settled on the overpass at Mason Road near Avery, OH near where the old W&LE Huron Branch crossed at a place called Fries Landing (between Vermilion and Bellevue).

1. Over the bridge crossing Mason Road,  just ahead of him up trackside is where the W&LE went under and the Huron River Bridge. Power is NS 9799 and 9660.  The W&LE Huron Branch crossed Mason Road just in front of the car in the distance.

2. Now we get down the track in front of him as he pulls under the Interstate 80 (Ohio Turnpike) bridges and comes through Kelleys the west end of the siding formerly known as West Avery. Engineer Danny Whitt has his arm out the window probably gesturing as to why we are not on "his side".

3. Sorry Danny, but the light is on "our side" as we get a big sky look at the spring Ohio countryside here at Strecker Road crossing as they are heading for Kimball and Bellevue.

4. One last one, the going away shot at Strecker Road, their next stop - Belllevue.
