Today's NS 21G
Author: TRACKENGR

Todays NS 21G didn't go by CP Phoenix until 8:15 pm (ish).  Does anyone know what was the problem?
As backup, CP Phoenix is on the NS Harrisburg Line about 28 miles west of Philadelphia.

Word is no crews available and it wasn't a high priority

Reporting from up the line a ways.
This train and most others have been all over the place time wise. Last year (or maybe 18 months or so now) when NS started adding the steel slabs to the freight with DPUs, it was more like they ran about 5:30-6:30 PM like clockwork, but after about 6 months, it got a lot later with regularity. It rarely comes by before 6:30 PM and often is often closer to 8:00 PM. One night recently it was more like 11:00 PM. Draw your own conclusions, something about "precision" and railroading. Note: I didn't appreciate the earlier arrival time on Fridays, as having picked up hot sandwiches and fries and waiting for 10 minutes or more for this monster to pass, led to cold dinners. I rather like the later "precision" timing.
When Conrail ran this railroad you could set your watch by the time the intermodals, and for that matter the manifest freight, ran past here. That went down the tube when NS took over. Every train is now merely a crap-shoot.
So, I personally don't believe there is any special reason that any of the NS trains are running late on the Harrisburg Line, just plagued with "precision".

No problem at all.  21G's profiled departure from Morrisville is 21:50.  21G-15 departed Morrisville early at 13:40 and arrived in Harrisburg at 23:05...8 hrs ahead of schedule.

How does an intermodal train which has a published 1700 cutoff for inbound shipments leave its initial terminal 8 hours early without leaving much of its freight behind? (My guess would be It’s most likely something else is happening such as a curfew that has the train running well off its profiled time)

They have an I1G-15 going on duty and an I1G-16 planned.

“Plagued with precision,” I love it!
