Thanks for letting us know it was in Ohio. Often at Yahoo News they don't give you a clue, and sometimes an event is in Great Britan with a locale with same name as here in the U.S. How many eastern states have a "Hamilton"?

Where else is there a Dayton district outside of Ohio?

The derailment was in Hamilton, and the Dayton District does not pass through Hamilton.

I haven't had a chance yet to look up the exact location, but the derailment may very well have been on CSX trackage. Both NS and CSX pass through Hamilton and share trackage (directional running between there and Cincinnati)

One of the Cincinnati TV station Web sites listed the derailment as occuring at Walnut Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard in Hamilton.  That would make it a couple of blocks south of the B&O depot on CSX Toledo Sub trackage.  It could have been either a CSX or NS train, due to the directional running practiced daily between Hamilton and Cincinnati.

CSX Toledo Sub and NS trains could avoid the blockage by using the NS New Castle District / Dayton District - in both directions - between Hamilton, the Mill Connection, and Cincinnati.  That would make the NS New Castle District a very busy piece of single track, not to mention that nearly, if not all, both railroads' crews would be qualified over the NS, due to the directional running, and wouldn't need pilots.  The only CSX trains that would be blocked would be Indy Sub trains, but even then, CSX could detour them via Sidney and then a second time over the NS New Castle District between Hamilton and Cincinnati.

It WAS an Indy Sub train - Q361.  Two box cars jack-knifed, a loaded auto rack on its side, a second rack and a tank with wheels on the ground.  Corman made short work of it. Line reopened about an hour ago.

I didn’t think the Indy sub would clear auto racks?

Big clearance imrovement project a couple years ago opened the door to racks - they've been a regular on 360/361 ever since.

And clear for double stacks, should that business ever materialize.
