Delmarva Grain Shuttle in Action
Author: cr2581

The Dover Local heads north at MP41 near South Smyrna, DE last night with thirteen covered hoppers to be interchanged with the Maryland & Delaware at Townsend. The former CSX cars now wear DCR reporting marks and will be loaded with grain or soy at multiple locations on the MDDE. The shuttle serves the Poultry industry which is a significant part of the state and local economy. Barely visible at the hind end is the southward facing MP15 for the return trip. The car on the headpin is the one exception.  Loaded with plastic pellets, it will be dropped at Delstar in Middletown. The spring wheat on the right will soon be harvested.

Enjoy !

Nice to see a short line keeping trucks off the road. Do you know the endpoints of this operationi?

What power does the MDDE have at Townsend these days?

MDDE's power is stored in Massey.  Townsend is just an interchange track for cars. There is an RS3m based in Massey along with the SW1200 from the BDRV.

Nice shot. Old highways and fields with tracks alongside is always a great view
