D&H Caboose
Author: Mbortell115

Hello all,
I recently was fortunate enough to purchase a caboose frame and trucks from the Joe Merli collection in Duansburg NY. The wood was stripped away long ago. I am told it was on display at the Altamont fairgrounds many years ago. The only one I could find being there is 35928 which shows currently in Ellenville NY. The frame is almost identical to the 35872 which is currently on display on 9N in Greenfield NY.

Does anyone have any information on which Road number this could be?

TIA!

Sorry, can't help.  Caboose directory from ARCHES group only confirms what you already reported.

Since I wrote my response, I received the July issue of Railpace magazine and spotted a picture of the D&H caboose on Rt 9N in Greenfield NY.  Part of a report on the new Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway Debut.

Thanks for checking. I’m not sure what the heritage of this caboose is. 35845 has all the same features. I don’t see what the disposition of that caboose is. Still looking. Thanks!

After a lot of cleaning and research, I found stenciling on the frame that said D&H 35823 which was built by D&H for its subsidiary, Greenwich and Johnsonville. It was as flat roof transfer caboose. Now it’s time to make it as she was.

Sounds like a good project - if you think about it take some photos as you go and post them for us to watch the progress.

As she was and how I got her. The stencil can barely be read in the pic but its not too bad on frame. I will post as progress happens.
