Down at the Docks - Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Saturday June 25, 2022
On this date in 1876 General Custer and his 7th Cavalry were wiped out by Sioux and Cheyenne Indians at the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

I finally dragged my lazy butt out to grab a few shots today. Very warm and muggy, and still getting that high sun which I don't care for in taking pictures.

1. That BNSF Warbonnet I snagged yesterday on Train 206 came back via the NKP this morning on the 205.  Lighting wasn't good most everywhere, but got him here in a tight shot at Beaver Park Marina west of Lorain. BNSF 754 and 6701.

2.  The going away shot as they cross the Beaver Creek bridge heading towards Vermilion.

3. Going back to Vermilion and down at the docks, we see Train 310 with NS 7508, UP 8356 and UP 5708. Lots of boats and paddlers enjoying the day.

4. Train 206, the counterpart to 205 we caught with the Warbonnet leading at Beaver Park, is on the Chicago Line today not the Nickel Plate. Here he goes over the Vermilion River with BNSF 7220 and 4679.

5. The kayak brigade tries to out paddle the motor boaters as Train 21Z passes overhead with NS 4265 and 4573.

6. There was a 315 expected "imminently" on the NKP, so it was an overhead reach to catch the 26E over on the Chicago Line, but here he is with NS 1224, UP 5492 and UP 7689.

7 - 8. I've said it before, it seems that the sun and the NKP side trains never quite line up, but let's shoot it anyway. Here is that imminent 315 after working Sheffield coming through Vermilion. Fisherman are out today as well as boaters. Power on Train 315 is NS 1032, UP 6478 and UP 5733, and he is a long one today !

9. Ok, so now back home to enjoy the view from the living room window looking out over Lake Erie and being lazy again.

Good catch on the warbonnet. The paint is in great shape.

That's a lot nicer view from your living room than I have here, for sure!
Thanks for the post.

The train pictures are fine as usual, but also having a good time looking at the boaters in your shots.  With all the stress and bad news of daily living, it's just nice to see people out having fun.  I just got back a week ago from a brief vacation to Northern Michigan, and I'm still "basking in the glow" from the experience.  Would loved to have had another two or three weeks!

Many years ago I had a summer internship at Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Away from work in my spare time, I'd often catch the weather forecasts on NOAA Weather Radio, and I guess the officials felt that Fort Wayne was close enough to the Great Lakes that the usual broadcast sequence included the marine forecasts for both Lakes Erie and Michigan.
