SD40E / SD60E on the Double Stacks - Lake Erie Land

It was been fun lately to catch the Sandusky - Maple Heights L15 train, and today was no exception. It had an SD40E leading an SD60E. I'd rather have caught him from ground level, but sometimes you get what you get.

1. Here he comes over the bridge, the SD40E leading. NS 6342 was built as Conrail SD50 # 6753 in May 1984, then to NS 5430 (SD50) and finally rebuilt to SD40E specs in September 2011 and renumbered to 6342. I remember when this group of Conrail SD50's were new they showed up frequently on the former EL through the Southern Tier of New York. They were a frequent scene in my railfanning haunts out of Binghamton and over Starrucca Viaduct. However, it seems the 6753 eluded my lens back in '84.

2. Now we see both units, the 2nd unit is the NS 6996 which has been a regular for a while. The NS 6972 had been mated with the 6996, but it disappeared a few days ago.

3. A look now at the NS 6996.
