Detroit's freight activity still far, far exceeds that of Boston, San Francisco, or Orlando, even if it's a shadow of its former self. There are surely days when not a single freight wheel turns on the San Francisco peninsula or inside Boston's Route 128, and I'm not just referring to Christmas. (Orlando, of course, did not grow because of it ever having major industry.)

Just a quick answer,,,,,, if your  on a peninsula ,,, don't expect to see a lot of trains,  Darn you Glaciers,,  if only the tunnel was built with 23' clearance..  
been sad going thru slides to get ready to sell some at Marion,  what a place to be a fan in the 70's, 80's,  i wish i had taped my crystal scanner's constant barrage of radio chatter when working the bridge.  Dave j.

At least those in the Indy area.  Only one major route thru town (CSX, ex-CR ex-NYC) and it's not all that busy.  The rest are CSX secondary routes and shortlnes that rarely see traffic.

OTOH, northwest Indiana is an entirely different ballgame.
