Ayer MA and vicinity
Author: dwatry

Made a quick trip to Ayer MA on 9/15/22, which was the day before the scheduled strike a few weeks ago.  Fortunately the strike had been called off, but unfortunately traffic was down due to the strike preparations.  A few things were moving, however, including MBTA.
1)   When I arrived in Ayer, NS 22K had already arrived from East Deerfield and was making several backup moves into the CSX yard to drop the train.  Former B&M interlocking tower in the background for this shot from the Main Street overpass.
2)  NS 22K making another backup move into the yard.
3)  Eastbound MBTA Fitchburg line train in push mode.

4)  Westbound MBTA Fitchburg line train at Shirley MA behind an F40.  Nice to see these locomotives still soldiering on!
5)  Shot of rear of same train, with the Lilliputian Shirley depot (shelter) on the left.    Very small and cute, but it does the job!
6)  CSX train tied-up in Worcester MA - shot from the Gates St overpass.

Nice shots!  So will that NS train continue to operate via East Deerfield (rather than via Worcester?). Is it correct that G&W's new Berkshire & Eastern will have its eastern terminus at Ayer?  And presumably interchange a manifest there with CSX?

Thanks for sharing. There certainly is a lot more overgrowth than what I remember in the early 1970s. Combine that with an abundance of ticks and that doesn't fair well. Hopefully, New England doesn't ever get drought caused wildfire conditions.
