A Couple for Halloween in Lake Erie Land

Monday October 31, 2022
Vermilion, OH

Didn't accomplish much today, other than getting the oil changed in the wife's car. On the way back I stopped at the Rail Park for a short time and grabbed a few shots. Yesterday was slow, and so too seems today so far. Scanner has been pretty quiet. Last night there was a flurry of activity between 10:30 pm and Mid-night.

1. 17N is going Chicago Line today instead of via Bellevue as he is on Track 1. Power is NS 4326, UP 2611 and NS 9697. The signal maintainers are out looking at the detector. Earlier in the morning it wasn't quite dictating the mile post correctly for some reason. Related to the laws of physics and momentum, I'm not sure about all those mty flats on the head end. What could possibly go wrong ?

2. A going away shot of the 17N as heads west to Huron, Sandusky, Toledo and Elkhart.

3. Up next is a shorter than normal 23G with NS 3638 and 9559.

4. Train 28B, the old 206 which trades off going via the Chicago Line as seen here, or the parallel Nickel Plate between Vermilion and Cleveland. Lately it seems that the intermodals are going Chicago Line almost exclusively. Very little NKP traffic noted. Power today is NS 9817 and UP 8911.

5. Vermilion is in the Spirit of Halloween, as this character sits near trackside waving at passing trains. Perhaps he is hoping to see a Niagara, Mohawk or even a J4a Hudson of long ago memory.
