CSX 999 pulling the trash.
Author: howeld

CSX 999 leads M634-20 Westbound (Northbound) train on CSX at CP River in downtown Columbus tonight right after sundown.   I was suprised at the amount of garbage left in the hoppers.   At least two or three rail cars worth on this train returned to sender.

It's amazing how much filth is generated. Excellent Video.

My guess is they only have so much time to unload a car and without a rotary dump which is not likely they do pretty well with probalbly a backhoe.

Really? "Cleaned out" with a back hoe? Nice job.

Are these Cars coming from the Landfill that is located South of Fostoria? Looks like a bunch of construction debris and wood and trash rather than municipal waste. Probably construction debris from the east coast.

These come in loaded on CSX and interchange to the Ohio Central and then are taken somewhere east of Columbus to be unloaded.

The debris may have been frozen in! They will have to send it to some place warm, like down south to let it thaw out.

I don't know about the handoffs in Columbus but there is a chance they could go to a location just west of Mingo Junction. There is a landfill there and Ohio Central picks up east coast trash trains at Mingo Junction from NS taking them west to the aforementioned landfill. Actually the trains leave the former PRR main via a connection uphill to another rail line and into the landfill.
