Seymour, Indiana Nights
Author: robj

11/5/2022
Southbound on the Louisville and Indiana downtown Seymour passing the John Mellencamp mural. While I was waiting two CSX eastbounds came off the L& I turning east at Seymour.
The CSX Indiana Sub crossing is one block south of this street crossing

1) Long train - be interested to know more info
2) L & I local

Neat pictures! Seymour has gotten a little more busy with the rebuilding of the PRR (LIRC). Sad to see what has happened to the B&O west of Seymour.

I think it is in good shape West to Mitchell and intact to Vincennes. I believe most all of that sees local traffic. West of Vincennes, though, is OOS.

Great photos, nice to see that they recognized Mr. Mellencamp with a mural there.  I must have seen him about 5 times in the 80s when he came through the Los Angeles area.  To my mind, he and his band were the hardest working I'd ever seen - playing 2+ hour sets with multiple encores.

When my wife and I came through town in October 2019, they were just painting the mural.

The long train with NS power - loaded grain train from Kokomo Grain in Edinburgh IN.   Kokomo Grain sits north of town at the wye to the branch that runs back to Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center.  Kokomo Grain has 3 large elevators in Indiana - Kokomo, Amboy, and Edinburgh, all of which ship multiple unit trains a month on NS.

L&I line past the mural sees the L&I turn between Jeffersonville and Columbus, 1 CSXT each way each day, unit grain as needed from Edinburgh, and unit military as needed to/from Atterbury.  South of the diamond sees 3-5 additional trains a day that come north and turn the corner onto the B&O to Cincinnati.  B&O west to Mitchel IN sees a local 3 days a week.  West of Mitchel to Washington IN is in service but has no scheduled service.  Large portion of the line in Illinois is out of service with diamonds removed.

As you are likely aware, building was in the Pink Houses video,  For those who've never seen it, there are a couple cool RR shots in video with a westbound B&O with a clean Chessie Geep and C&O SD, and a Conrail southbound with a PC Geep and Conrail caboose.

L&I train going to NS with NS run thru power. On paper routing is NS direct with LIRC origin switch. Kokomo does same thing with CERA origin switch out of Kokomo snd Amboy.

Thanks
Once I seen where Edinburgh is located I understood the routing.
