Penn Central Heritage on 28M and Other Catches

1. What could be better than a cloudy overcast day and a catch of a Penn Central unit ?  NS 1073 the Penn Central heritage unit leads CSX 296 on Train 28M this afternoon in Vermilion, OH. This trackage was the former NYC / Penn Central Chicago Line.

2. Running over to the former Nickel Plate at Shinrock, OH towards Bellevue, we catch the 316 heading out on his daily journey to Conneaut. Today the NS 4503 and 9443 are the power.

3. As of the last few weeks the 316 has not gone the traditional Nickel Plate all the way route to Conneaut, but takes the connector to the Chicago Line east at Vermilion. After running the Chicago Line to Cleveland it will then diverge back to the former NKP rails to Conneaut. Here on the western fringes of Amherst, OH we again catch the 316, now on the Chicago Line.

4. A heads up on Train 315 brings us back to the Nickel Plate side at KM (Kishmans) east of Vermilion. It is both school bus time and train time here in this neighborhood.

5. & 6.  Here comes the 315 with BNSF 6998 and 7003 leading the way. It is quiet here on this section of the NKP with only this daily train and an occasional L20.

Very nice set of shots.  Love the PC engine. NS used it on some kind of bulletin board poster, ethics code maybe.
