NS Derailment Hanover, WV.
Author: funnelfan

There are videos and photos of a NS coal train derailment at Hanover, WV that show loaded coal cars crushing a variety of vehicles on a highway. Looks very bad at first glance, but the reality is the vehicles were parked between the tracks and highway where the derailment pushed them onto the roadway. The vehicles were awaiting work at the automotive shop on the far side of the highway (Hanover Wrecking Service). No injuries were reported.

Looks to be NS's Guyandot River Branch.
Luckily, the nearby residences, also between the tracks and US52, were spared. At 3:30 AM, they were almost certainly occupied.

Looks like quite a derailment along US 52. Been thru there several times over the decades. US 52 is an interesting hightway to drive with NS(N&W) near by.

From the ocean going northwest, 52 follows the ACL from Charleston SC to Wadesboro NC; the Winston-Salem South Bound to Winston-Salem NC; and the Southern to Mt Airy NC. Then it's not adjacent to a RR until it begins following the N&W at Bluefield, WV. 52 runs all the way to Portal, ND and then into Canada as Saskatchewan Highway 39 to Moose Jaw. Somebody else will have to fill in the rest of the RRs that 52 follows.

I grew up on US 52 in Indiana. For almost 20 miles it follows the ex Big 4 Whitewater branch from West Harrison to Metamora, Indiana
