"In The Yard & On The Main" CSX Utica NY
Author: ut-1

CSX interchanges with New York, Susquehanna & Western in Utica NY.

On January 18th, I videoed three CSX engines pulling seven empties out of the Utica yard.

Next, the CSX freight backs up on Track 2 to connect with the rest of its train.

A few hundred yards east, while the CSX/NYS&W interchange freight holds on the main, another CSX freight passes by on Track 1. Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern ALCos are seen beyond the CSX main working in their yard.

Finally, the interchange freight powers up and slowly heads on its way.

Nicely done. All in a day's work on the railroad.
Any idea why the Conductor  was "patting" the angle cock. I've never seen that done.

When an angle cock is stiff and hard to turn it's best to gently tap it open. Otherwise too much force at one time may dump (put the train in emergency) the air in the head-end portion of the train.

OK, thanks, makes sense. I've mostly seen yardies making the connection.

Either a trainee or trainman employed less than one year.
