Lots and Lots of Cab and Cowl units
Author: scraphauler

Quick grab shot of the east side for the Aberdeen Carolina & Western shop on 3/1/23.

Left to Right outside the building we have:
Primed extended vision caboose, likely one of the 3 or so ex ICG cabs they have/had.  Behind it is the stainless steel twin-diner set, ACWR 300-301
Primed F7 - should be either the 4500 or 4501.  Both are ex MILW - behind it is one of the 15 SD60F on the roster
Still in Iowa Pacific paint E9  103.  Sister 100 is now magenta and yellow to match the ex NS F's and is inside somewhere, and gray IC Deathstar 101 I believe is in the paint booth
Another of the 15 SD60Fs

On lead we have ex NS Executive F, now ACWR 271 and 276.  Coupled to the B is one of the 5 ex UP MP15AC on the roster, followed by the ACWR 9538, the only Canadian Cab GP40 left on the ACTIVE Roster (there are 4 more drained and stored in Seven Lakes NC which are not currently registered in UMLER).  Unsure of the identity of the old E B Unit shell in foreground

Past the sanding tower is yet another SD60F.  Car wrapped in tarp is ACWR 9373, an ex Southern Pacific "7/8th's Length" dome car.  Second picture is a crappy late evening grab shot just after it's arrival in town.  It has subsequently has the exterior sheeting removed and wrapped in plastic. An old heavy weight business car (not sure which one) is next - this is not the same car the dome is coupled to in second picture.  Next is ACWR 1004, an ex NP F7B. Behind that is an ex PRR Baggage car acquired from the dumpster fire that was the Indiana Transportation Museum. Rounding out the view are more SD60Fs

That massive shop looks like a B-52 hangar!  A huge facility for a railroad that size.

Thanks very much for your posting.  Had been wondering what was happening since you haven't postyed in a while.
Amazing for me to see the current situation.  That area was a real outback when I lived in Winston Salem, Jun 1972 - Jan 1977.
Thanks foe keeping us updated.

FYI - some readers may not know that the shops are located in Candor NC

Large indeed - here's looking at the building from the other end (shot taken this morning)   Good portion of the shop is dedicated to passenger equipment repairs and restorations.   The grain elevator you can see over the roof is Mountair Farms.  Out of site the the left is a second prairie skyscraper that belongs to Purdue Farms.  These two facilities combine to feed over 7 million chickens per day.   This morning Mountaire was busy unloading CSXT G659, a corn train off of the Indiana & Ohio up in Ohio that arrived yesterday afternoon, and ACWR Train 200 was switching Purdue, pulling out 35 or so empty cars, mostly soybean and soybean meals cars and spotting in another 50 or so various grain loads that come in on manifest trains in smaller blocks from both CSXT and NS.   it this seven day a week, 365 day a year flow of grain that pays for all the toys like the passenger cars, E & F units, etc.

Second shot is track expansion taking place across NC 211 from the Candor Shop.  Track you see crossing 211 in background is the lead into the shop.  Montaire is out of site to the right, Purdue around to corner to the right in the far distance.  Shot also shows the rollercoaster profile tyipcal of lines in the Sandhills of the Carolinas

Third shot is closer look at the plastic wrapped car and heavyweight business car.  The heavy weight APPEARS to be possibly of L&N heritage.  And upon further review, that is NOT the SP Dome under the blue tarp.  That is another heavyweight, presumably the ancient heavy weight that the TRUCKED in from Alamosa CO a few weeks ago.  The car they trucked in, the SP dome and heavyweight showing in photo on ordinal post, the MILW Skytop Coffee Creak, a restored full length dome (I think was one of the ones used on IP's ill-fated operation of the Hoosier State for Indiana)  3 E9s, and a E9B riding on 4 axle Blombergs have all come in from various points on the globe out of the great estate sale of Iowa Pacific
