8 Years Apart, 2 Paint Jobs, Sold and Bought Back
Author: DTWilson

8 years difference ..... Formerly CSX #7627 reacquired in the Pam AM railway purchase and renumbered as #9280.
During the winter of 2015, a group of GE C40-8 locomotives held down the "Shuttle Engine" assignments between Keyser and Grafton, WV. #7627, (now #9280) was one of the "shuttle engines" that winter.... All photos at Piedmont, WV.
At the time, 130 empty hopper trains (west) and 65 car loaded trains (east) were the norm on the Mountain Sub. "Shuttle Engines" were employed during the winter months to add extra air compressor capacity and sometimes horsepower for trains between Keyser & Grafton, WV... The engines were added and taken off trains at Keyser.

1) and 2) Shot of #9280 on L163-25 - 25 March 2023

3) February 2015 holding down a "shuttle Engine" job on a westbound empty hopper train.

Thank You,
Tim W.
