Eastern Railroad Discussion > NW 611 at Enola Wednesday evening

N&W J 611 has concluded its 2 year residency in Strasburg and is currently being moved back south to Roanoke.    There are rumors that it may run excusions in the near future in Virginia, but that's beyond anything that I can confirm.

It moved from Strasburg to Enola this afternoon and was wyed and pulled back into the yard and is being heavily guarded by NS police.  Thursday it is scheduled to depart Enola for NS's Lurgan line for a run south at least as far as Hagerstown if not further.   Here it is seen from the shoulder of US Rts. 11/15 this evening.

You had me disoriented for a moment. If viewed from 11-15 it is facing the wrong way. Then I remembered that to run south on the Lurgan a train must first run west to the Rockville Bridge then north across the Susquehanna River to go east to the ex-Reading Bridge to cross the River again to head south on the Lurgan. As I recall NS was going to build a connection at Lemoyne to make this a straight shot east then south out of Enola Yard but there were alleged Indian Burial grounds in the way and all planning for that connection fizzled.

The 611 left Strasburg with an NS unit and a full load of coal. Looks like the coal pile is untouched

Will the 611 have the NS diesel ahead of it on today's run?
