Busted Knuckle .. 01June 2023 Author: DTWilson M317 has been reinstated originating out of Cumberland, MD .... The 1st day back provided a little excitement on the Mountain Sub.
Former Gettysburg GP9 #107 heading to the Rock Island RR was tucked in behind the CSX power at the headend of the train. Due to a speed restriction thru a rail replacement project on track #2 between Piedmont, WV and Bloomington, MD, After catching the 317 at Piedmont, we jumped ahead to catch them again at Bloomington. 1) The unmistakable sound of a train going into emergency and a loud rush of escaping air as the power ... minus the rest of the train at Bloomington, MD. 2) A GP9 leading a CSX train..... with a busted knuckle and the rest of train M317 stopped on track #1 just after crossing over the Potomac River in Bloomington, MD. 3) With the headend power backed down, the conductor takes a walk back to their train to asses the situation... ... 2) The leader sitting under the Rt. 135 Bridge in Bloomington, MD while the Conductor ties down the hand brakes, swaps out the busted knuckle, and then release the hand brakes...... 3) Repaired, back together and on the pull at Bloomington, MD.
