Tennesse Central L&N F's (Early October)
Author: Asheville_G

Finally getting caught up on posting some stuff from early October.  Here are 3 photos of the TCRM excursion between Nashville and Watertown, TN.

Photo #1:  Tennessee Central Railway Museum's L&N painted F units lead the westbound Watertown excursion departing Watertown.

Photo #2:  The excursion approaches Lebanon, TN

Photo #3:  TCRM excursion at Mt. Juliet.

Thanks for looking.

Boy they look sharp in the L&N Passenger Blue! Working oscillating headlight to boot. Brings back memories. Especially at night folllowing one getting closer with the oscillating headlight lighting up the sky and clouds.

Wow, that is NICE! great looking train, too. Didn't they have a few NYC painted E8's at one point?

Great photos.  Reminds me of when I was a kid.  I had some grandparents who lived a half block from the passenger bypass in Louisville.  Almost every Friday I would go spend the night with them.    I would ride my tricycle down to the tracks to watch the trains.  One block away from the street they lived on, there were gates and I could hear the bell ringing when the gates went down.  Even though I was too young to tell time, I sort of knew when the trans were due and I would ride down to the tracks and wait.  At night, I could see the Mars light in the sky when the train was about 2 miles away and I would head down to the tracks.  Occasionally it would be a freight that stayed on the main and went to South Louisville.  At that time, the L&N was still using steam on some of the freights so not all freights had a Mars light.

Most excellent shots.  I also love the Gyralights and Mars lights at night.  I treasure nightime  memories of being on the four L&N E8's we had in the Amtrak Florida pool

We still had the mars lights on the L&N when I was running. Hated to see them go to the annoying strobes on the cab roof than to ditch lights. Air hose wrenches did wonders on the strobes on the cab roof and the ditch lights seem to never shine down the track but everywhere else.
Ran a lot of Espee and Rio Grande across NW Florida that were equipped with them.

I had a photo published in one of the magazines of the NYC E's when they ran an excursion to the end of their line, but that has been about 25 years ago. They have since been dispersed to other locations. I don't think the pair went to the same place

I was very surprised to see one of the NYC-painted E8s in Clifton Forge, VA a couple of years ago. It was just east of the A Street overpass on the tail track for the C&O museum. I have no idea if it's still there.

I always liked the mars light . The worst were those flashbulbs on top of the cab. Ditch lights are ok if they don't flash and are aimed right.

The NYC E units were sold to the Medina Rail Museum in New York.
