NS G05 on the M Line at Griffin, Ga
Author: DJS

Three views of NS G05 easing south on the M Line from downtown Griffin, Georgia in February 2024. Berry currently is getting one switch a week from NS G05 or sometimes G04. It was required that Berry get three switches a week, but the railroad's models have changed.
This was once Southern Railway's main to Warm Springs. Only 2 segments remain operational today, McDonough south below NS's training center then this Griffin segment from the wye to just west side of Hwy 16. A 3rd section in the middle alongside the Griffin District at Experiment is only used for storing MofW equipment.

Photo 3 : G05 just north of Berry.

Looks like NS playing shortline! It appears Griffin was a major manufacturing area at one time. Lots of abandoned sidings and tracks.

Dave, Can't recall whether or not this one, NS G05 comes over from McDonough, past the NS Training Center or a different routing?  Nice catch on all of them tho.  Ben

The center part of the line between Griffin and McDonough has been out of service for at least forty years, I believe.
