A track maintenance employee. This is ex-SAL trackage formerly part of the Norlina-Portsmouth main line that's now industrial access.

Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Track workers and highway workers etc can be extremely close to fast moving and very dangerous traffic

It was very sad to hear about the trackman's death.  Condolences to his family and co-workers.  Roanoke Rapids was my away-from-home terminal long ago, and I still remember the trackage there.  It is tragic when a fatality happens anywhere, and more so when it is somewhere you used to work.

Although one is too many, there have been WAY too many employee fatalities on the rails in recent months.
