Temps in the high 40's with a chill wind

Just a short time trackside today yielded a 265 intermodal, and a big 23G with an interesting consist.

1. & 2.  Intermodal Train 265 out of Ayer, MA rumbles through with NS 1845 and WFRX 8909. The WFRX units still seem to be getting heavy use.

3. Behind the 265 was this big 23G which usually has 6- 8 units. Today his consist is NS 7515, 1138, 9946, 4001, 9787, the 3950 still in BNSF colors and 8090.

4. - 6..  Watching the power pass by .....

7.- 8. The BNSF painted NS 3950. Not sure what this one is all about, a former CEFX?  Hope someone has details.

9. And away they go towards 47th Street Chicago. This train originates out of Croxton, NJ.

It looks like NS is riding their units hard and putting them away wet! They are looking pretty ragged.

NS purchased 44 GE Dash 9-44CW's in December 2023 from CPKC. These units were last on the KCS roster, but were originally BNSF. NS is slowly patch-renumbering them in the 3920-3963 series and placing them in trailing-only service until the units are eventually rebuilt as AC44C6M's.

Good stuff! 23G can be an absolute monster with a hefty set of power up front (most likely several are dead in tow). It rolls west through my town pretty consistently between 6-7pm.

I missed this one though!
