I032 had a head-on collision with L743 at the junction. Apparently there was a signal suspension and MOW working the area and someone had the junction switch lined the wrong way.

Judging by the photo on the TRAINS website, it looks like a rear end instead of a head on.

Nope, head-on. All the power stayed upright and the first rock hopper on L743 appears to be where the brunt of the collision force was dissipated.

Chilling! I hope none of the injuries are severe.

Wow that is awful hearing the sound of the collision on that video.

I'm so glad the injuries were (apparently) non-life threatening.

Wow, that is some chilling radio talk. One can only imagine what is going through the mind of the crew member that sounds shaken up. He may also be afraid that someone might try to put the blame on him

The conversation between I032 and the dispatcher giving permission is what I would like to hear. One question, was 743 sitting on the Waycross side of the turnout? And was 743 moving or sitting still? Listening to the video,I never heard the brakes shoot. I'm very familiar with this area. I've been through Folkston many thousands of times. Who gave permission to I032, who told them it was lined to Savannah, what type speed should they have been running? I could go on and on with these questions.
Tragic accident, fortunately no one killed, and hopefully not seriously injured.

I assume the NTSB will investigate this one and public a report in due course.

Look for some changes to be made during signal suspensions.

There is another cut of this video that is a little bit longer and starts earlier in the accident sequence. In that video you can clearly hear the brakes dump and the train begin to slow. Not scientific by any measure, but the number of carlengths that pass after the brake dump seems to roughly equal the distance from the misaligned switch to the point of impact.

Which makes you wonder why they hadn't already occurred after the accident involving the Amtrak train operating during a signal suspension.

The dispatcher gave them an EC-1 to proceed north on the Nahunta Sub.  The switch tender had it lined the wrong way.

Yes, they were on the way when this was reported but don't expect the report until next year

In this video, the air shoots at 0:46 and the collision is heard at 1:04. Did the I032 crew jump?
