A Dash 9 and a B-52 kind of day
Author: srman

Today was Thunder over Louisville day. An air show and fireworks show that kicks off the Kentucky Derby celebration on the first Saturday of May. For me it was one train and one bomber. NS 125 with its Dash 9 leader heads east for Louisville along the New Albany Indiana floodwall. Than later this afternoon a U.S. Air Force B-52 does a fly over the Ohio River. Although this aircraft is much advanced from its early days of production it's still hard to believe it's nearing seventy years. Even upgraded do you think that Dash 9 will be around for seventy years? Who knows.

Now that is just flat out cool! Both modes of tansportation that can efficiently deliver the "freight"! It is neat to see a photo of the bomber but totally another thing to be there in person.

Great shots!

I used to love watching BUFF’s land with a cross wind, truly a unique sight!

Those 52's are awesome jets. Was stationed at NAS Atlanta for a few years back in the 90's. Had an air show one year and one of these were on display. They are huge. Have a shot of the better half standing under the nose of it and well, it's like I said huge.Once saw 4 of them, one behind the other in a sort of formation flight in the central valley of California. Another amazing sight. Thanks for sharing the shots. Ben

Thought is that they might reach the age of 100 while still in service.

They are ALL getting new engines and a mmuch needed digutal upgrade that will allow them to communicate with the rest of the Air Force aircraft.   There is no doubt, with these new upgrades, that the BUFF will reach the 100 year milestone.
