Question for Seaboard Coast Line locomotive engineers
Author: TBTCarl

Good afternoon,
For those of you with experience with SCL GP16 locomotives, I have a question: when they were outfitted with strobes, I've heard they would operate when the horn was blown. Did they also have manual control?

Thanks in advance,

Carl in FL

I don't remember the strobes, other than I didn't like them. I thought they did an ok job switching and on locals that weren't too heavy.

While I can't definitively say they had a switch, there was definitely a way for the strobes to be on without the horn blowing. I observed plenty of GP16s in yard operations with the strobes flashing.

For flat switching, better than a U-boat, not as good as an RS3.
