Probably around 1962 Dad drove our family to Canada to see this great new St. Lawrence Seaway. Without the Internet and only paper maps somehow we wandered around in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada and stumbled onto the Saunders Generating Station Visitors Center. That was pretty much what we saw. No ships, no lakers, no locks just a big ole damn dam. Not such a successful trip in my humble opinion. As time has gone by I have become much more familiar with how much the Seaway impacted railroads similarly to how Ike's Interstate highway system undermined the freight railroads. Not saying it was right, wrong or indifferent, but undisputedly the Interstates had a HUGE impact on freight transportation. I like seeing fresh engines in new paint! There are so many neglected beat and and unwashed locos out there (reminds me of before deregulation and everything was let go to H*ll) This evening I saw four freshly painted NS High Top hoppers going east on the "Beltliner" (H38?) on the Harrisburg Line to reverse at CP Cromby to return to Spring Street Yard in Reading (PA). The Beltliner had an unusually long train, nearly 20 cars! Normal is 4-6 cars. Anyone know where these coke carriers came from or where they were going? Thanks, Gonut Date: 04/26/24 06:54 Re: Catching a Few Today - Lake Erie Land Author: Notch76 Great catches
