1. Norfolk Southern's Virginian heritage SD70ACe-1069, with NS ET44AC-3652, is leading S/B train 11-Z (East Yard-Binghamton, NY to Roanoke, VA). Here, on NS' Roanoke District, at MP H124.4, passing the former Norfolk & Western N/B CPL signals at the north end Lewis Run siding. 1:28PM on 4-29-24 in Lynwood, Port Republic, VA.

2. Norfolk Southern's Virginian heritage SD70ACe-1069, with NS ET44AC-3652, is leading S/B train 11-Z (East Yard-Binghamton, NY to Roanoke, VA). Here, on NS' Roanoke District, at MP H165.6, NS location Pkin, passing the former Norfolk & Western N/B CPL signals at the north end of double track. Train is crossing Tree Lodge Farm Lane. 2:46PM on 4-29-24 in Rahine, VA.

3. Norfolk Southern's Virginian heritage SD70ACe-1069, with NS ET44AC-3652, is stopped with S/B train 11-Z (East Yard-Binghamton, NY to Roanoke, VA). Here, on NS' Roanoke District, near MP H168.7, NS location Vesuvius, just north of the Tye River Turnpike, VA Rt. 56, grade crossing. 11-Z is waiting for N/B work train 911 to pass. 2:56PM on 4-29-24 in Vesuvius, VA.

True. But there were some that said they would never do anything heritage.

They wanted 'different ', and they got it. I understand the thought process but the delivery really fell flat. A real shame as the enthusiasm finally was there and CSX predecessor roads had some fantastic, full, paint schemes.

I really like those old signals, for 2 reasons:  the position lights make it easy to understand (and are very unique), and I like how N&W made one signal taller than the other, to allow crews to differentiate which signal governed which line.  That's smart.  SP did that alot, too, where the siding signals were short-masted searchlights, and the mainline had high-masted searchlights, with a full backing plate.  Cool stuff.
