A westbound CN freight behind two clean and sharp GEs heads for Chicago just west of downtown Battle Creek, Mich. on Feb. 20, 2016. Just a last-second wedge grab shot out the car window that turned out well, while stopped at the S. Kendall St. grade crossing. The clear, low-angle wintertime light helps, as it always does.

This location is just west of the Gord interlocking on ex-GTW track, where the Amtrak ex-PC nee-NYC / MC Michigan Line joins from the left to run through downtown, before diverging again east of the central business district. The second signal gantry to the left shows the location of the Amtrak trackage at the junction.

Nicely done! The one and only time I was in Battle Creek (1984) that blue overpass was just opened after the rails were merged through the city eliminating the dual rail crossings that plagued traffic. I recall a very nice classic passenger station from an earlier era. I had little time to railfan but a quick drive around looking for a suitable dinner we found Tony The Tiger! A trip highlight!

The first two are looking south, then north on South Kendall Street, trying to show the distance between the CN and Amtrak Lines.
The CN crossing is a No Whistle Crossing, but the Amtrak Line is not.

The Firekeepers Casino, out east of Battle Creek, bought the old fire station a few years ago. I've never been in it. I guess you can get sandwiches and beverages.
