Steamy weekend on the Everett RR
Author: bigsavage

The Everett, based in Hollidaysburg, PA. ran steam on its excursions this past weekend, with a twilight trip to Martinsburg Jct. on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, July 7, the RR had two trips on the schedule: first a Noon time "Lunch train" to Rodman Siding, MP 16, a location that has largely replaced the former stopping point of Brookes Mills.
The other trip went to Roaring Spring , MP 17.5 at 1400, and had a layover for riders to be served ice cream.
Weather was tolerable, with highs in the mid-80s by mid-afternoon, breezy, a few more clouds than I would have liked.
1&2: 2-6-0 #11 ready for noon time departure, and departing Hollidaysburg. The "Lunch on the Line" concept  is having a caterer serve fresh burgers  on board. 1 car is used for food prep, and there were still seats available.
Video: 1400 train to Roaring Spring has passed the junction switch at Brookes Mills, heading  up the 1.6 maximum grade into Roaring Spring, and crossing Brooks Boulevard.

In the 3 years since I last saw the #11, it has changed to an oil burner.
While the engine still has its bark working the grades, the visual effect is not the same.
In these pics, #11 is approaching and passing Monastery Road at Kladder Station,MP12.2 , normal terminus for holiday-themed excursions.

#11 approaches PA36, a busy crossing that marks the entrance into McKee Gap,, 2.5 miles of steep grades and sharp curves.
Later on, between trains, #11 rambles through the Hollidaysburg EVRR yard and passes Lehigh Valley #126, X-Kiski Jct RR refugee. The EMD SW900 has been popular and handles most of the non-steam excusions.
On the Roaring Spring trip, the #11 is passing the driveway to the former Appvion paper mill, closed several years ago, now being razed.

Servicing of the Iron Horse is ongoing, and #11's crew was kept busy.
My companion and I appreciated the invitation into the cab of #11.

Some terrific shots.  Everrett has added some fine looking coaches since I was there pre pandemic.  Great looking train.  That also makes it easier to get great looking shots.  You nailed it.

Interesting images, would like to see more of the ex-LV SW900. Looks pretty good save the red being too light.

Wiki says it's a "retro" version of the LV scheme.
