Eastern Railroad Discussion > Auto Train (P053) @ Potomac Shores, VADate: 09/01/24 05:42 Auto Train (P053) @ Potomac Shores, VA Author: cinder Ventured down to the Potomac River for a few trains on the CSX (former RF&P) yesterday. Here is a video of the Auto Train taken at the Cherry Hill Rd. crossing (Potomac Shores) at 4:45pm. It left Lorton, VA on time with 13 passenger cars and 24 auto racks..
I knew from my scanner that Amtrak Regional 158 (Norfolk, VA to NYC) was just north of Quantico so the video includes the northbound passenger train as well. Both trains were "at speed". Does ridership justify all those cars?

Regards, Jim Evans Amtrak regularly trims and adds Auto Train cars for seasonal traffic volumes. I believe several cars are loaned out to other Amtrak routes for the Summer and Fall season Posted from Android Date: 09/01/24 16:29 Re: Auto Train (P053) @ Potomac Shores, VA Author: NPRocky I'd be curious to know if the ridership south of DC justifies all those cars for 158, or is that a matter of Amtrak simply being mostly into fixed consists now?
