Last year they acquired 4 of the Western New York and Pennsylvania's ex-Cartier M636s for use on their former Lackawanna main line through the Pocono Mountains of PA. This week for WNYP 643/QCM 43 was finally released for service and has made several runs. Here she is today leading 3 other Alco/MLW 6-axles seen departing Scranton and passing the former Lackawanna Freight House in Moscow PA.

I only had a limited amount of time Saturday morning as I had to be back in Harrisburg by mid-afternoon, and I had one more mission which I wanted to accomplished today. I had hoped to catch the 74 from atop the west portal of Nay Aug tunnel before all the fall foliage has dropped. (The tunnel is easily accessible by a series of trails within Nay Aug Park.) At this time of the year, if the 74 leaves early (which it did today), the sun is not high enough in the sky to light up the gorge. Fortunately for me, Steamtown was running a Halloween passenger train to Gouldsboro at 11:00 am (with a pair of DL 4-axle Alcos as an added bonus), which satisfied my desire, and allowed me plenty of time to get back home for an afternoon activity with my granddaughters . Several questions: --what is the grade? --how much elevation is gained by those heavy grain trains going to that new bakery / milling operation? --this is the old ERIE mainline, correct? Or is it the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western? --in that last photo with 2 mains, is there a speed restriction, or is the train just moving slow being it's a Halloween train (more time for the kids)? --in its heyday, how many trains typically used that section of track? I love see more of America's rail capacity being put back to work, vs. lines being abandoned. Thank you for any answers! To answer your 3rd question, this line is former DL&W. Posted from Android Date: 10/27/24 09:29 Re: Delaware-Lackawanna PO-74 with ex-WNYP/QCM M636 Author: refarkas Well done - Great views.

Various sources state the ruling grade is 1.5% to 1.8%, but I'm not sure of what it actually is. > > --how much elevation is gained by those heavy > > grain trains going to that new bakery / milling > > operation? Former DL&W, then Erie-Lackawanna, then Conrail for a short time, then the Lackawanna County Rail Authority, which became the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Rail Authority. > > --in that last photo with 2 mains, is there a > > speed restriction, or is the train just moving > > slow being it's a Halloween train (more time > for > > the kids)? It's technically still running within Yard Limits, DCS track authority starts on the other side of the Nay Aug Tunnel.. > > --in its heyday, how many trains typically used > > that section of track? The DL&W was a big anthracite coal hauler out of the Lackawanna Valley, so in it's heyday, with passenger, freight, and coal trains, you would have dozens of trains on a daily basis. It was actually three tracks below where I was, but one portal of the tunnel and one track were pretty much destroyed here by the remnants of Hurricae Diane in August 1955. > > > > I love see more of America's rail capacity > being > > put back to work, vs. lines being abandoned. > > > > Thank you for any answers! > > > To answer your 3rd question, this line is former > DL&W. > > Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). The westbound is steeper, Analomink-Pocono Summit is a mostly steady 1.52% The last big steam show was NKP 765 on Labor Day weekend, 2015. 2 issues of TRAINS, July - August 1985, covered the DL&W's demise with Greg McDonnell's "What's left of Lackawanna"? 1. NKP 765 is eastbound leaving Scranton, 9/7/2015 Nay Aug tunnel is just ahead. 2. D-L RS3 4118 is leading a Moscow excursion eastbound on 9/6/2015. This is between Nay Aug and Elmhurst. 3.Westbound between Cresco and Pocono Summit on 9/5/2015, Video from vestibule of dome car Stampede Pass. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos.
