Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX I141 with BoxcarDate: 10/27/24 10:22 CSX I141 with Boxcar Author: Jesse6669 I noticed today on the Cincinnati RR Club cam as I141 (intermodal North Baltimore to Jacksonville) was going down the ramp track to work the intermodal yard, there is a boxcar behind the power with what appears to be solar panels on the roof. Anyone know what this is? A telemetry car of some sort? Here's a screen grab of the car.

CSX operates a small fleet of them (8, to be exact) . These non-revenue cars travel in revenue service, measuring track geometry conditions. Instrumentation measures gage, profile, crosslevel, warp, and alignment. The ATACs are essentially converted boxcars, with concrete added to increase the weight of the car and the testing quality.
