Eastern Railroad Discussion > Fall Colors, Old Signals, & a Heritage UnitDate: 10/27/24 22:37 Fall Colors, Old Signals, & a Heritage Unit Author: jdrtrainwatcher Here are 2 recent photos from the NS Charlotte District in North Carolina.
On Monday 10/21/2024, NS 12R is seen making it's way north through the small town of Landis, NC with NS ES44AC #8098, the Conrail heritage unit leading the way. Then on Sunday 10/27/2024, Amtrak 75 (sb Piedmont service) is seen passing underneath the classic Southern Railway signals at Glass in Kannapolis, NC amidst some fall foliage that's almost at peak with RNCX F59PHI #1755 in the lead. ![]() ![]() Date: 10/28/24 14:47 Re: Fall Colors, Old Signals, & a Heritage Unit Author: coach I love the older signals, because back then, each RR had its own unique way infrastructure. Searchlights, CPL's, PL's, vertical trilights, circular trilights, small backing plate searchlights (NYC), semaphores, etc. So much more interesting that today's SAFETRANS ubiquity. It's hard to believe that it's basically down to 1 signal supplier these days.
