Bonanza of Color and Units in Lake Erie Land
Author: train1275

Monday October 28, 2024
Vermilion, OH
70 degrees and nice.

I had figured maybe to catch up on a few loose ends and not be out this morning, but plans all changed when looking at the morning line up here. The day became a kaleidoscope of color with some interesting units. A good day to be out after all.

1. & 2. Staking out at Coen Road between CP 222 and CP 224 west of town and here comes I - 57 (eye 57) an extra 257 with one of the blue things leading; NS 4000. 2nd unit is NS 4561.

3. Then some orange, yellow, black and red with CP 8757 (Every Child Matters) with KCSdeM 4559 on frac sand train 60W.

7. & 8.  Now hanging out at the Vermilion docks as the 23G goes west with NS 4709, 9745, BNSF 5800 and NS 4279. BNSF orange now gets into the act.

9. Then 38N comes off the NKP conector to go east on the Lake Shore line and we catch it with NS 8143, 4795 and another orange unit .........

10. .... the TP&W gets into the orange parade with GP15-1 1539. I think this unit was Conrail 1684 built in December 1979. Can anyone verify ?

11. 11N pulls out of Fairlane Yard at CP 219 and goes over the bridge with a long train of auto mtys and NS 4640 as a mid-train DPU.

12. 22X, the hotshot intermodal and more interesting color with the Weight of the World; NS 4822 leading NS 4567 and NS 7615.

13. Mr. Mallard adds some green tones as he gets a drink of water.

14. & 15. An eastbound manifest (Train 310) with NS 1234 leads two SD40-2's; NS 6083 and NS 3353.  NS 6083 was built for N&W in March 1975 and NS 3353 was ex Conrail 6399 built in August 1977.

What a day !
