Fall colors on the CSX CE&D sub
Author: CSX2605

My attempt for some fall color. This location is known on the railroad as Ft Knox. Just up the hill is the Ft Knox State Historic Site. This is where George Rogers Clark captured the fort allowing for the opening of the west. St Louis would have never happened if it wasn't for Clark capturing the fort at Vincennes.
First photo is M501 rolling south along the foot of the hill with the Wabash River in far left of the photo. There is a small campground between the tracks and the river.
Second photo is R588 northbound along the hill and the river. Better view of the campground. The locomotives are right next to the Wabash River with the state of Illinois across the river. R588 will load coal at the Oaktown mine about 12 miles to the north. Oaktown loads the C040 coal train that goes to Orlando, FL.
Third photo is a map of the area with the tracks highlighted in red.

Brian, great drone coverage and nice fall colors coming on.

I haven't been on Lower Fort Knox Road north of Vincennes for sometime and don't remember the camping area this well developed now.  It looks rather nice.  This could be a great spot for some of the people that still travel into the city to photograph the CE&D sub. to stay for the night if they have an RV or like tent camping?  The camping site is also easy to get to from US 50, US 41, or State Road 67 (the main highways into Vincennes).  And up about 1.5 miles North from the camping area shown is Wabash Trails Park, that has nice luxury cabins for rent, RV parking (short and long term), campsites, trails, and public picnic areas (and some of the park is literally adjacent to the CE&D main).
