Nine New CN SD75IACCs at Elkhart 1/8/25
Author: JPB

What I think is NS manifest 174 (Macon GA to Elkhart) arrived moments ago at 0437 Wednesday 1/81/25 with 9 CN SD75I to SD75IACC DC to AC rebuilds fresh out of Progress Rail at Muncie, IN. I tried to decipher the CN unit numbers from the screen grab off the Elkhart live cam but could only see that they are in the 83xx series - CN has ordered 50 such units in the 8300 to 8349 range rebuilt from CN SD75I cores. The initially rebuilt SD75IACC, 8300, was delivered in July 2024.

I tried playing the video at the highest resolution available on the YT page at both quarter speed and half speed; here is what I believe I saw:

NS 8124, 3638, 7026
CN 8316, 8310, 8315, 8317, 8324, 8326, 8328, 8319, 8327

303, with NS 8154-3638-7026; with CN: 8316-8310-8315-8317-8324-8326-8328-8319-8327.

IAC = Individial Axle Control - There is an inverter on each axle, so if an inverter goes out you only lose one axle.  The older units had one inverter per truck, so you would lose a whole truck if the inverter went out.

I guessed this was Macon - Cincinnati - Elkhart manifest 174 because I'm further guessing it passes through Muncie IN where Progress Rail's facility is located. But it sounds like I guessed wrong!

It looks like 303, a Bellevue to Elkhart manifest, runs via the ex-NKP through East Wayne, where some other move would have dropped the CN locomotives?  Just trying to figure out where it would have picked to CN locomotives.

Thanks.
