Eastern Railroad Discussion > Conrail Lemoyne District questionDate: 01/31/25 12:21 Conrail Lemoyne District question Author: irhoghead I had posted this on the Nostalgia page a few days ago. Thought I'd inquire here as well to see if there are any answers.
Does anyone know when Conrail stopped switching the Lemoyne District in Chicago? This was an industrial area just to the west of Santa Fe's Corwith Yard. I came across photos I took of it in the late 1970s, with the crew often using an old black ex-PC SW1 and a PC transfer caboose. I believe they may have gone on duty at Ashland Avenue yard? They ran through the south end of Corwith Yard to access their trackage. Google Earth still shows much of the trackage in place, though it hasn't been used in decades apparently. Some crossing are ripped out, etc. Still lots of industry there, but no longer rail served. Sounds familiar. Curious if anyone knows when they gave up the ghost. Thank you. |
