Eastern Railroad Discussion > Icy Ice Sculpture Sunday in Lake Erie LandDate: 02/02/25 13:08 Icy Ice Sculpture Sunday in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 Sunday February 2, 2025
Vermilion, OH 33 degrees and freezing rain Not a great day to be out in the freezing rain, but we did a quick tour. 1. The first daylight Train 259 (Intermodal; Rutherford, PA to Kansas City-Voltz Yard) I've seen in a long time. It's off the Lake Shore line, through the east-leg connector and on the single iron of the NKP heading for Bellevue as seen at MP 225 Stanley Road, four miles west of Vermilion. Today's power is NS 4437 and 1026. 2. - 3. Yesterday was the big ice sculpture festival in Vermilion. The streets were packed, big crowds. Today a few lookers braved the elements. This one of a NYC steam locomotive was next to the tracks and spotted as 23G rounded the bend back the other side of the Vermilion River Bridge by Vermilion Road crossing. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 02/02/25 13:13 Re: Icy Ice Sculpture Sunday in Lake Erie Land Author: train1275 4. 23G approaches passing the ice sculpture and we see he has NS 8066 and 8136 as power.
5. An ice dog watches 23G go by at Main Street. 6. Just down the block by Brummer's Chocolates is a neat ... penguin ? So enough is enough, going home for some hot soup for lunch. The Interstate heritage went by leading the detour 277 ( I - 77) and the Yellow Bonnet 1800 was on the 11N but we didn't wander back out. Edited 1 time(s). They build their sculptures right on the frozen ice on the canal through town. It was so well attended they had to stop people from going onto the ice as it was sinking and water was rising onto the ice!
Thanks for braving the elements and posting. Gonut Date: 02/03/25 01:49 Re: Icy Ice Sculpture Sunday in Lake Erie Land Author: CSX2605 The dog is howling at the train horn. Great set of shots!

There were 2 railway themed sculptures - 50 years of railway legends commissioned by the National Railway Museum Minster to Metropolis commisioned by Grand Central. York Minster represent the origin with Grand Central running trains to London [Grand Central trains actually run between Sunderland and London with a stop in York]. ![]() ![]() Date: 02/06/25 11:10 Re: Icy Ice Sculpture Sunday in Lake Erie Land Author: ns1000 At a recent Pa ice sculpture event, one I saw was a toilet lol.....
