Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX Detours on NS Harrisburg Line and a questionDate: 02/03/25 19:27 CSX Detours on NS Harrisburg Line and a question Author: TRACKENGR My house if about 1000' from the NS Harrisburg Line between MP 24.5 and CP Phoenix in Chester County PA. As a good railfan, when I'm home, I always keep the scanner on. My wife loves me.
Back in the day (1999) you could see 20 + trains a day on the Harrisburg Line. Not so much now. We were down to 8 daily - regular schedued - trains between Abrams and Phoenix until last week when we got two CSX Detour trains. After two days, it appears that the pattern is M371 running west at Phoenix between 1:30pm and 2:30pm, and M372 running east betweeen 8pm and 9:30pm. While its really cool to have another "daylight" train, I have a question for "those in the know". Can someone tell me the origination and destination of M371 and M372? Also, I believe CSX got permission to run up to 4 trains per day (?) whats next? Steve Date: 02/03/25 20:33 Re: CSX Detours on NS Harrisburg Line and a question Author: Gonut1 I'm not sure what my "wife loves me" has anything entering into this but it seems that you reside near me, sort of a funny statement. I'm near CP Cromby. I just haven't received enough info to chase these CSX detours although I've seen a couple of posts.
I believe the reroutes are from Orangeville Maryland to Eastside Yard in Philadelphia and reverse. Gonut Date: 02/03/25 21:06 Re: CSX Detours on NS Harrisburg Line and a question Author: WM_1109 TRACKENGR Wrote:

The pair is utilizing trackage rights over NS between Philadelphia and Hagerstown during the Howard Street Tunnel reconstruction project. Orangeville, though a lovely spot on the NEC back in the day, has nothing to do with it. /Ted Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/03/25 21:21 by WM_1109. Yes, the "my wife loves me" is a reference that I always have the scanner on in the basement. Fortunately (for her) we live near the NS Harrisburg Line so there is not a lot of radio traffic. Last year, I put together a list of trains through CP Phoenix in 1997 vs. now. It was based on the CR schedule book on a "Friday". Anyway, the count was 20 vs. 8. That excludes unit trains. Keep in mind that in 1997 there were still 3(ish) power plant boilers working east of Phoenix that received trains and sent back empties. And there were the D&H (CP) trains that were not included. They are trucking the traffic north of Baltimore in the interest of time. Customers don't care how it gets there even if you like the train. They don't want their shipments going via Cleveland and Selkirk just to stay on the rails the whole way. I don’t know what still runs (M300? M301? M404? M403? and other extras?)
