Eastern Railroad Discussion > USSC Sebring Turn ?Date: 03/11/25 13:04 USSC Sebring Turn ? Author: JayK I am heading down to Florida shortly. Does the Sebring Turn have a predictable schedule? I have seen it in the past and it usually left Clewiston in the early AM. It that typical and what days does it usually run?
Thanks, Jim Kleeman Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/11/25 13:05 by JayK. ![]() Date: 03/11/25 14:53 Re: USSC Sebring Turn ? Author: refarkas First-rate example showing the mini-dips and hills of Florida instead its of being boringly flat.
Bob Date: 03/11/25 15:08 Re: USSC Sebring Turn ? Author: EL833 I was just down there. The Sebring Turn (sometimes called the DeSoto Turn) generally departs Clewiston M-F in the early AM. It went north in a thick fog about 7ish. The Fort Pierce Turn also departed early both days I was there. The harvest is in full swing right now, plenty of cane trains- but be aware that most now use the new line from Bryant to avoid the FEC running between Canal Point and Lake Harbor. The popular Miami Canal bridge in Lake Harbor sees less traffic now due to this, just a local and cane trains that serve the loaders on that section, plus of course the Ft Pierce Turn. Check the Sugar Express web site for steam excursions as there are a couple coming up. As a rule these only run on the SCFE lines, not the USSC lines. As for motive power, all the 400s and 500s have been renumbered now (to 3800s and 4200s). Six axle power can now be seen, including the SD45 carbody 6325 (now an SD40-2M, in the new green, former Penn Central) and the 6324 in a tunnel motor body. Attached is the Sebring turn on 02-25-2025 as it works it's train after returning to Clewiston. That 6325 lead north both days I saw it, that scabby SP lead south. Photos north of Moore Haven should be good light. There is another tunnel motor body due in soon in the fresh green, so be on the lookout. Have fun !

Thanks for that valuable information. Jim Date: 03/12/25 06:51 Re: USSC Sebring Turn ? Author: sscannella When I was there in early February I caught what I thought was the Sebring Turn leaving before 8:00 with a 21 car train. I didn't follow it after I photographed it, but I was surprised to see later that morning the same power set with the "local" at the Miami Canal bridge at Lake Harbor and working the "other" cane processing facility - the Cane Growers CO-OP in Belle Glade. I never did figure out where the left the cars from the early morning. There was a passenger special out of Lake Placid early in the evening that day, so I suspect that there never was a turn to Sebring (DeSoto), and I never saw or heard a Fort Pierce turn, so I don't think either of them are a certainty every weekday.
You can see my full exploits from that trip here - https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,5985152,page=1 Date: 03/12/25 10:34 Re: USSC Sebring Turn ? Author: ShortlinesUSA Things like that can and do happen. It is not unheard of for the Sebring crew to get pulled into doing something else. The CSX interchange can be off normal schedule. There can be trackwork. All these are examples of things that have happened the past month or so.
