Norfolk Southern Beesley's Point NJ Secondary - Current Status?
Author: CPMorris

Does anyone know the current status of Norfolk Southern's
Beesley's Point (NJ) secondary line? Just to review, NS operated
coal trains on the line, but the Beesley's Point power plant closed
in 2019 and NS discontinued the coal trains, the only traffic on that line.
Is the line now abandoned or out of service?
The line is (was?) a remnant of the former Pennsylvania-Reading
Seashore Lines Ocean City branch.
Last T.O. discussion I found about this was from 2022.
Thank You in advance for your replies.

I understand the remaining coal in the generating station yard filled quite a few hopper carloads and was taken elsewhere.  Also thought I read that Cape May Seashore Lines was storing excess freight cars for class 1's.

Last I heard , the power plant and everything associated with it is completely gone.   Tuckahoe to Palermo is used by the CMSL for car storage. IDK who actually owns the track, but CMSL has operating rights.
Palermo to where the generating plant was, is owned by CSAO, no one knows why.  Speculation is that developers want to build housing in the vicinity and that CSAO might want to cash in on that property.

I believe that this is all CSAO territory, not NS

CMSL = Cape May Seashore Lines (mostly a tourist line, their only other revenue has been car storage
CSAO = Conrail Shared Assets Operations.     Terminal RR in NJ owned by NS and CSX, using NS and CSX power.

The connections from the former electric plant to the PJM grid have been preserved as a possible future contact point for the on and off again offshore wind turbine proposals. The idea is the wires are already in place, so just tie in the wind turbines.

If they are ever built.
