Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX at Stll River depot Harvard MA - now & thenDate: 04/10/25 02:54 CSX at Stll River depot Harvard MA - now & then Author: JPB Photo 1: On Wednesday April 9, 2025, CSX Selkirk-bound road freight M427 from Portland ME led by dual PTC mode CW44AC 487 with its 3rd rail notched pilot is tied down crewless at a lonely stretch of the ex-B&M Worcester Main (now CSX) called Still River Depot in Harvard MA awaiting a crew and/or expiration of a possible work curfew further down the line in Worcester. Locomotives are idling but the more distinctive sound is the continuous automatic weapons firing from the Army's nearby Ft Devens firing range.
Photo 2: Almost 18 years earlier on June 7, 2007 Ayer to Selkirk CSX symbol freight AYSE trundles down poorly maintained Pan Am Railways track led by 3 year old SD70MAC 4740 plus 1. PTC has yet to become a thing and interestingly the SD70MAC is three years younger than the CW44AC captured yesterday. Clearly CSX, as new owner of Pan Am Railways, has nicely rehabbed the Worcester Main track with new CWR, ties, and stone that are key to developing its Maine freight traffic. And re: the possible work curfew on the line, double stack clearance work and double tracking are ongoing at Worcester this day - I'll post an illustrated update on this project separately.
