NS train hits WV pedestrian
Author: KurtBWNews

One should expect a train on an active line at any time, from any direction.

No word as of this post if someone died.  Pix at the link show an NS locomotive.

Pretty sure that was a trespasser not a pedestrian.

Pedestrian equals someone crossing tracks in a approved walkway.
Trespassers are people on the tracks for no approved reason.

Many media outlets have  decided  that "trespasser" implies an illegal status which hasn't been determined.  The original news article used the term "person"..

We had a TrainOrders thread years ago discussing Norfolk Southern's decision to post its right of way along the Port Road in Pennsylvania. NO TRESPASSING,  Blocking access to several dozen fishing camps, summer homes, etc. The courts determined that NS did not have that authority, given the 150 years of unchallenged use.   NS and the state eventually agreed on several designated crossings, and the state authorized and enforced trespassing rules elsewhere on the line.

Exactly & thank you.  The railroad tracks are private property.  Don't walk on them, along them, and you probably won't get run over and killed.  OL & FRA are trying to discourage "predestrians" along the right of way.

It is NS equipment but territory is operated by Watco's Kanawha River Railroad.

Ahhh, so.  I simply saw the NS locomotive pix, and figured it was somewhere on NS lines in the Charleston, WV area.

I don't get down that way often.  Thank you for the clarification.

Probably should break this out as a separate thread, but since you mentioned it, here's local coverage of that one.
