I was born in a small town
Author: srman

So the song goes. CSX sent M687 south today over the Louisville & Indiana with their Clinchfield heritage unit out front. Seymour Indiana is the home town for John Mellencamp and he is proudly represented on a building as M687 heads south. Next he passes through Memphis Indiana and finally Ashland Park in Clarksville as is he approaches the Ohio River to enter Louisville Kentucky. Thanks for looking. Joe Vittitoe

Nice pictures.  I hope CSX uses Clinchfield heritage as lead engine when they reopen the rebuilt Clinchfield.

When ever I hear that song I always go back in my mind to the image of the conductor highballing the train on the platform of a Conrail cabin at the end of the video - railroading in the US midwest as it was meant to be! - Whoops, that was Little Pink Houses!

Nice picture with the mural in the background. My wife and I happened to be in town when they were finishing it several years ago.

Going to be there in a few weeks. Does anyone have the radio channel numbers for Seymour and possible train count? Thanks!

AAR 51 is the LIRC dispatcher. Not sure what CSX uses on the old B&O. Typically CSX M688/687 would be the only day time N/S trains through town.
I've seen M688 leave Louisville north at 6AM and also noon. M687 will ususally show up in Louisville around noon. If that's the case there might be a meet at Underwood which is just south of Scottsburg. Now CSX will send 3-4 northbounds during the day and get on the old B&O to head east for Cincinnati. There is a local CSX job up there but I'm not sure of when it works. Sometimes the LIRC will send something through town but only when CSX is out tof the way. Typically its noctunal. Then sometimes you might get a potash train running north or south. Good luck.

You also get occasional NS powered grain trains.  And the rare military trains.

Great photos from Seymour.
