Is there much freight on this line? My recollection is that the Cardinal operates triweekly in each direction. The Buckingham Branch operates some local service trains (sorry I don’t have specifics on what they do) and CSX runs as many as several empty coal hopper or empty grain trains westbound per day over the route. The NS H Line is also nearby over in Waynesboro with a pair of freights each way plus some locals each day, and the former SOU mainline with several trains and day plus Amtrak crosses the BB in Charlottesville. CSX overhead freights are westbound only, empty coal and grain. They run on no particular schedule or amount. Two to six per 24 hours is a rough guess with the average around 4. Buckingham Branch local based in Charlottesville runs to Staunton on Tuesday and Thursday. It's possible the Staunton local will bring coal loads to UVA in Charlottesville roughly once per month in winter. The Buckingham Branch runs their excursion train from Staunton to Ivy and return. Days of the week this operates vary with the season. Mike Derrick Posted from Android Date: 04/16/25 06:13 Re: Crozet VA Traffic Author: mattsway Thank you for the insights.
