Eastern Railroad Discussion > Chessie U23Bs - where are they?

Anyone know if any of the Chessie U23Bs are still around? I heard that some were recently for sale and a few have survived on shortlines.

None survive. All were scrapped by 1995. A few ex C&O U30B's survive on NERR and one one GC (out of service).

Didn't I see a photo or hear recently that Nashville Eastern or some other short line Tennessee line still has Chessie Painted U23B 3200 (ex2300) still on site sitting on shop trucks and in very sad Chessie System paint?

At one time the NERR had a hulk cribbed up on wood at the Lebanon Shops. I haven't been by there since the tour for the L&N convention when the convention was in Nashville several years ago. If you want to post a question on this, the Tennessee Central email list is at:

Speaking of Chessie hulks cribbed up on wood, the Tennessee Southern has one at Mt. Pleasant. This one is a Geep.

I stopped by the N&E shops on the way to the in-laws for Thanksgiving.
They have the hulk of a Chessie engine number 5828 without any trucks, sitting outside the shop area.
Also saw ex CSX 7025.

That would be 5328, not 5828. Which should be ex-C&O 8200. I may have to drop by
there on the way to Florida in a few weeks :) The ex-Seaboard U30B's were 5300-5327, and
the ex-Chessie's were numbered 5328-5362. They kept their CSX numbers on N&E.
